I have created a very different process for choosing the right partner. We have been taught to look for common areas and personalities when picking a partner. These common areas rarely become the source of problems in a relationship. The uncommon areas which I call Non-Negotiables will become the force behind conflicts and problems. We look so hard for the common areas that we get blindsided with the Non-Negotiables (uncommon areas.) I help the clients to get to know themselves better and define the Non-Negotiables in the potential partner before they become fully invested in the relationship.
